My current job has me delving into the federal courts of Northwest Indiana. I've covered a variety of cases, including corrupt politicians, gangs charged with racketeering, a nationally infamous doctor who scammed hundreds of his clients and then fled the country and the pastor of a megachurch who claimed he was doing God's will when he had sex with a 17-year-old parishioner.
I've also reported on numerous other areas in my seven years as a professional journalist, such as government, education, health, business and the environment. I'm familiar with most topics, and if I don't know much about one, I know how to find out.
Many of my stories also use data from the U.S. Census Bureau and other reports to give readers a better understanding of themselves and society. I try to find the underlying reasons why life in Northwest Indiana is still an overall struggle, especially for those in Gary.
